Krystal had the best sense of humor and we had lengthy discussions, with laughter, and sometimes without,  about various driving scenarios while she was practicing driving in order to get her license.  We did have some serious conversations also about specific driving maneuvers.  She was so excited to get this new found freedom.  We had just painted "her" car the Monday before the accident and Krystal was very proud of this 94' Mustang.  If I knew then what I know now, I would have invested more money into a safer car.    Please enjoy our discussions.  The Sunday before "the accident" we drove together, and I felt relaxed and told her so.  Krystal said "thanks mom, that means alot".  These moments will never be forgotten...........I wish Krystal and I could share them as she got older.

1)  Stop before the crosswalk or you may not be able to avoid hitting someone.  Krystal sometimes didn't stop before the first white line while we were driving and when we got back to the house I would tally how many potential "pedestrians" she may have hit, and we discussed the importance of following this law.

2)  Don't be sitting at the light after speeding past "granny" only to see her breeze through the green light without even tapping her brakes.  It is embarrassing and it is guranteed that "granny" is smiling because she knows how the lights are timed with the posted speed limits.  Not only are you burning more gas, but your brake repairs will be more expensive.

3)  Many of us enjoy the feel of acceleration, especially when the light turns green, but remember you will be the first one hit if someone is running the red light the other way.  Look both ways before you proceed through the green light.  Your ego is greater than the acceleration of the car you are driving.

4)  This one is a tough one.  If you have a choice between "Tyler" or "Jasmine" when giving rides to someone, you are better off picking the female passenger.  Statistically, chances of being involved in a traffic accidents significantly reduces if their isn't a male passenger in your car when a young driver is behind the wheel..

More to come-this is hard to do normally-and besides her 24 year old  sister, Jessica, is upstairs crying missing her sister, Krystal. -Thanks, Krystal's mom

5)  Until you are paid for your predictions of what someone is going to do, you may want to drive far enough behind the car in front of you so not to hit him in case they have to stop fast.  The reason being is that your front end damage to your car will be far more expensive than their rear end impact AND you will be cited by the police, only to pay higher insurance premiums for many years to come ( long after your parents are helping you in many cases).

6)  If you can't see the driver of the car or truck or semi, it is highly likely that they can't see you.  This means not to ride along side them in their blind spot, only to be sideswiped when they change lanes.

7)  The more often you change lanes, the more likely you are to have an accident.  Be content in the lane you are in.  Listen to your music.  More than likely everyone will get to where they are going locally  within a minute of each other or so.......

8)  When Krystal was learning how to drive I use to put my feet up on the dash just trying to relieve some of the stress of the day and one time she told me to get my feet down.  She proceeded to tell me that if she hit someone or someone hit us, rather than my legs possibly breaking, I could become paralyzed.  Our backs, she proceeded to explain aren't meant to bend that way, unless of course we are into gymnastics or yoga.  I will never put my feet again up on the dash.  She was sooooo smart.....
